WTF? Marijuana that Doesn’t Get You High?

Tomorrow, a leading medical marijuana dispensary will announce the availability of a new strain of cannabis without any psychoactive properties.

For decades growers have tried to create the most psychoactive, the most mind-blowing weed possible…so it seems a li’l odd to be going the opposite direction doesn’t it?
Newsflash haters, not everyone who smokes weed is looking to get high.
And, speaking of high…it’s the THC or tetrahydrocannabinol that gets ya high. But, there are many other chemicals contained within the herb that have a myriad of beneficial and healing effects on the body.

When it comes to medical applications it’s not the THC most patients and doctors are after, but rather CBD. CBD or Cannabidiol makes up nearly half the plant, about 40% and has been shown to not only help relieve convulsion, inflammation, anxiety, and nausea, but also inhibit cancer cell growth! One more time: inhibit cancer cell growth!

And, recent studies have shown cannabidiol to be as effective as atypical antipsychotic in treating schizophrenia. Plus, in November 2007, researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center reported that CBD shows promise for controlling the spread of metastatic breast cancer. In essence CBD represents the first non-toxic external medicine that can inhibit cancer cell growth.

Oh, and CBD alone is completely NON-INTOXICATING. That’s why it’s been nearly bred out of current strains of marijuana. But, that’s all about to change.

Tomorrow at the 6th Annual National Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics in Rhode Island, our friend Steve DeAngelo, Executive Director of the Harborside Health Center cannabis dispensary in Oakland, California–the nation’s premier example of marijuana distribution–will announce the availability of this fancy new type of medical marijuana, (True Blueberry x OG Kush #1 is the front-runner) a strain that could quite possibly completely revolutionize not only marijuana but medicine itself.

“Ultimately, there will be greater demand for CBD-rich cannabis, than there is for cannabis that just gets you high,”DeAngelo. says “Only a small percentage of people enjoy the psycho activity of cannabis, but almost everybody can benefit from its medical properties”.

Along with the new product introduction DeAngelo will present the first ever large-scale analytical study of California’s medical cannabis supply which eventually led to the identification and discovery of CBD-rich cannabis varieties thanks to DeAngelo’s thought leadership and analytical chemistry lab.

In a post-marijuana prohibition age, where pot prices are plummeting and wreaking havoc on growers, businesses, towns and counties throughout California, DeAngelo has started a program to identify strains with high CBD levels and encourage growers to propagate them. This whole new paradigm shift is just another way the marijuana industry is stimulating the economy and effectively pulling  California and the rest of the country from this dismal recession.

Now that there’s weed available that doesn’t get you high and plenty of new opportunities to cash in on it…maybe more people will finally accept marijuana’s rightful place as the HEALING OF THE NATION!

I stopped smoking weed because for some reason i feel like ima gonna die when i smoke it and i have been smoking for 5 years.. Although i love the taste i absolutely hate the high. If this weed that doesnt get u high is real they should make it legal for all with no medical card needed. Fuck all the other strains tell them to take the thc out of sour deisel :)

I personally love everything about weed highs, it feels like you are Alice in wonderland when I smoke, I see everything differently, the buildings get taller, streets are wider, music is amazing, food is to die for, and if you sit back relax and close your eyes you have visuals and see everything can imagine. And while you relax your body begins slowly to feel like your levitating, with a warm soothing comforting feeling.
I would smoke pot then do any drug. Once you can learn how to teach yourself not to be paranoid when you smoke you too will fall in love with Mary Jane ;)

I suffer from osteoarthritis and have had one hip replace and ready for my other to be done soon. My doctor has had me on hydrocodone for almost three years to manage the pain.I have been very nervous about the length of time I have been taking pain med’s and the trouble I will have getting off of them. I started looking at medical marijuana a few years ago but I hate the feeling of being high. My girl friend is a smoker and I tried some a few weeks ago while having a major muscle spasm in my back. It was amazing how fast it worked and how well it worked, although the spasm lasted for over a week Every time I would take a couple of hits It would cut the pain in half and would improve my range of motion far better the hydrocodone does. At last someone is doing some legitimate research into the medical marijuana.

mr. DeAngelo rocks. helps show that cannabis isn’t to just “party” with, (although parties with trees are awesome)but to help heal without the raciness or maybe even the grogginess associated with some strains. it definatly helps erase the stigma of mmj or mj in general and its users, pts., etc. not everyone wants their heart pounding agrravating their anxiety, and some rich strains nowadays seems like it can daywreck. a person with a heart condition who needs relief without taking an hour to finally leave the house to go to work can benifit from this imo……damn i need to try dat harlequin.

an interesting thing is to ponder if hemp itself has cbd still in its genes that can be bred into future wonder-flowers. its cool to think not only can we make some strong herb, but highly therapeudic ones as well.
