Now that 41 State Attorney Generals Senator have subpoened opioid manufacturers blaming these drug pushers in suits for the death of thousands and thousands of pain sufferers the people demand answers. However Gov Christie and congress don’t have any solutions as they continue to ignore new studies proving cannabis can help ease the opioid crisis. What’s worse? An overwhelming number of doctors—especially the ones writing scripts for opioids—don’t know anything about how marijuana can help. We’re talking 9 out of 10 doctors are completely clueless about cannabis. The ignorance doesn’t stop there, however.
Yesterday Orrin Hatch (R) from Utah politely questioned AG, Jeff Sessions on status of medicinal marijuana research on Capitol Hill. Hatch began his monologue with saying he wanted to discuss the “substance which is often offered as a substitute for opioids”. He mentions, “Many states across the nation have adopted laws to legalize marijuana for medicinal use based on research suggesting there is medicinal value.”
He then made sure to be clear and stated, “He remains opposed to broad legalization of marijuana, but believes more research needs to be done to study the potential benefits and dangers”.
Orrin is co-sponsoring the Marijuana Effective Drug Study Act of 2017. The legislation is designed to simplify rules for scientists who want to learn more about the pros and cons of marijuana. The majority of his time spent questioning Sessions was spent on this subject.
Orrin pitched a lazy, softball question to Sessions by stating he is concerned about reports suggesting the DEA and DOJ are at odds on marijuana research particularly when it comes to granting applications to grow marijuana for further research. Orrin requested Sessions clarify the position of the Department of Justice regarding these applications.
Sessions replied by stating:
“We have a marijuana research system working now. There is one supplier of the marijuana for that research. People have asked that there be multiple sources of the marijuana for medicinal research and have asked that it be approved. I believe there are now 26 applications for approval of suppliers who would provide marijuana for medicinal research. Each one of those has to be supervised by the DEA, and I have raised questions about how many and let’s be sure we’re doing this in the right way because it costs a lot of money to supervise these [indecipherable]. I think it would be healthy to have some more competition in the supply but I’m sure we don’t need 26 new suppliers.”
The hearing is still in progress and ongoing. However, there have been no other questions regarding marijuana and how it could help relieve the largest and most deadly health crisis since the plague.
The statistics haven’t changed, 91 people will die today of an opioid related overdose, and our congress had one senator question the AG in relation to this crisis.
And, this questioning revolved all around how many applications are in place to grow marijuana for scientific research? No mention of the 41 state AG’s suing the pharmaceutical companies for accountability in the opioid epidemic? No mention of the bombshell 60 Minutes and The Washington Post dropped about ex- DEA agent/whistleblower Joe Rannazzisi?
Didn’t Senator Hatch and AG Sessions hear Rannazzisi accusing the drug distributors of pumping opioids into U.S. communities — knowing that people were dying? And, didn’t they hear him say the industry lobbyists and Congress derailed the DEA’s efforts to stop it?
Although, Hatch’s support of the bipartisan bill called the ‘Med-Act’ is hopeful to insure more marijuana research. It is hardly the action needed for those addicted to opioids and those predisposed to addiction. Hatch missed an opportunity to hold the AG accountable and thoroughly discuss the opioid epidemic and the “substance which is often offered as a substitute for opioids”.

AG Sessions, it has been proven it (cannabis) kills cancer but yet you say no, could the reason you refuse to believe in it is because you have your hands in the back pocket of big pharma and they own you lock stock and barrel?? I find it very sad that you won’t believe what science has proven, that is why I believe you are a paid for man!!!!
