The Story of Sun Grown Cannabis
The Harborside Health Center wants to help curb the carbon footprint of indoor-grown cannabis. And to do draw attention to the environmental impact of growing weed under HID lamps Steve DeAngelo, the founder of the Oakland based medical marijuana dispensary, put together the li’l video below explaining the evolution of sun-grown cannabis, its environmental benefits and how it’s making a comeback.
DeAngelo says:
“Many medical marijuana patients consume medicine that was produced indoors. Decades of prohibition meant growers were forced to cultivate cannabis in the shadows—hiding their plants under the cover of trees, or inside their homes, utilizing techniques and equipment to replicate the power of the sun. But as the War on Drugs dissipates, another problem presents itself: the widespread production of indoor cannabis is an ecological disaster. Is it time to take our cannabis cultivation back outside? And how will that affect quality, potency and price?”

So glad to have found this post. I am a Mmj patient in Michigan and sun grown is not only frowned upon, it is almost not existant here. I am a throw back from the old days, and was beginning to think I was crazy. As if the environmental concerns from indoor grow was not enough, there are additional factors that have also concerned me. The toxic chemicals and pesticides used to grow what I refer to as ego weed, have been a concern to me. Also, marijuana is a healing herb given to us by nature. What I have seen in indoor grow houses is nothing short of torture and abuse of one of nature’s greatest gifts. It is my hope that appreciation of natural marijuana and respect for the spirit of the plants increases in the future.
