Trazodone What Is It & Why Weed is Better

What is trazodone used for

Like we mentioned above, Trazodone is an antidepressant commonly used to treat anxiety disorder and unipolar depression. According to wikipedia many clinicians use low-dose trazadone as an alternative to benzodiazepines for the treatment of insomnia. Two recent reviews found that trazodone is the second most prescribed agent for insomnia, but as most studies have been limited to patients with depression, few studies actually support trazodone’s use in primary insomnia. As a matter of fact treating insomnia with trazodone is considered an off-label use in some countries. Other off-label uses of Trazodone include treating things like

• Fibromyalgia
• Complex regional pain syndrome
• Panic disorder
• Diabetic neuropathy
• Bulimia nervosa
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Alcohol withdrawal
• Schizophrenia as an adjunct to improve negative symptoms
• Erectile dysfunction

Trazodone dosage

There are two different tablets of Trazodone Immediate-release and Extended-release tablets. Here’s what drugs.com says about taking them:

Trazodone Immediate-release tablets:
Initial dose: 150 mg per day in divided doses.
Maintenance dose: May be increased by 50 mg per day every 3 to 4 days. The maximum dose for outpatients usually should not exceed 400 mg per day in divided doses. Inpatients may be given up to but not in excess of 600 mg per day in divided doses. Trazodone should be taken shortly after a meal or light snack.

Trazodone Extended-release tablets:
Recommended starting dose: 150 mg once daily
Maintenance dose: The dose may be increased by 75 mg/day every three days (for example, start 225 mg on day 4 of therapy).
Maximum daily dose: 375 mg
Trazodone extended-release tablets should be taken orally at the same time every day, in the late evening preferably at bedtime, on an empty stomach. Once an adequate response has been achieved, dosage may be gradually reduced, with subsequent adjustment depending on therapeutic response.

Side Effects of Trazodone

Like marijuana Trazadone has antianxiety and sleep-inducing effects, however unlike marijuana it has a the potential for toxicity and several negative side-effects these include:

• Headache
• Muscle ache
• Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or stomachache
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Loss of interest in sex (erectile dysfunction in men)
• Dizziness or loss of balance
• Dry mouth or dry eyes
• Numbness, burning, or tingling sensations
• Confusion
• Blurred vision
• Ringing in the ears
• Nervousness or confusion
• Rash
• Sweating
• Weakness or fatigue

Serious side effects can occur too:

• Worsening depression
• Suicidal thoughts
• A severe rash or hives
• Swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
• Chest pain
• Difficulty breathing
• A painful erection that will not go away (priapism)
• Panic attack
• Irregular heartbeat
• Fainting
• Unusual bruising or bleeding
• Seizure

We’ve also heard of tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights occuring when taking Trazodone as well as agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, fainting;

According to drugs.com you should stop taking trazodone and call your doctor at once if you have a penis erection that is painful or lasts 6 hours or longer. This is a medical emergency and could lead to a serious condition that must be corrected with surgery.

Trazodone and alcohol

If you are taking Trazodone do not drink alcohol. Trazodone can increase the effects of alcohol, which could be dangerous. Plus an overdose of trazodone can be fatal when it is taken with alcohol, barbiturates such as phenobarbital, or sedatives such as diazepam (Valium).

Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, vomiting, penis erection that is painful or prolonged, fast or pounding heartbeat, seizure (black-out or convulsions), or breathing that slows or stops.

Trazodone withdrawal

Trazodone patients should be monitored for withdrawal symptoms when discontinuing treatment with trazodone hydrochloride, aka Trazodone HCL. The dose should be gradually reduced whenever possible.

Trazodone high

Apparently you can get high as fuck by snorting trazodone hcl. We ran into a post on erowid.com, a non-profit educational organization that provides information about psychoactive plants and chemicals, left by a guy who gave snorting Trazodone a try. This is what he said:

After about 45 minutes from taking the first line I noticed that colors became more defined and things began to move in a sort of slow motion. Objects became outlined and everything seemed to stand out. I got up to get a drink of water and my balance was about the same as it would be after getting drunk; I had a very hard time walking straight. At about this time my mood jumped; I became extremely happy and couldn’t stop smiling.

An hour after the first line was taken I began to get a pleasant body sensation that is somewhat comparable to a low dose of heroine and my body just pulsed with good feeling. I went to the bathroom to see how I looked and I saw that my eyes were red and my veins were bulging. At that point I checked my pulse and found that my heart was beating a little faster than usual, but nothing fast enough to be concerned about. After that I just sat on the couch very relaxed and watched tv for a while. I drifted off to sleep sometime after and woke up early the next morning feeling well rested and with a lot of energy. My lifted mood was very apparent the next day as well.

We’ll stick to weed

The FDA requires a black-box warning on Trazodon. They note that taking Trazodone hcl could increase the chance of becoming suicidal. Get this, the risk of suicide is greatest when starting treatment or when increasing or decreasing the dose of Trazodone. Suicide risk may be higher for people younger than 24 when using Trazodne. Keep in mind that this is a drug that’s supposed to treat depression not cause depression let alone suicide—especially in the people who are the most at-risk.

Why is weed better? Well these harmful side-effects don’t happen with marijuana—a wonderful, all natural antidepressant and sleep aid. Plus you can grow it in your backyard. You don’t have to buy it from a massive pharmaceutical company.
