The rise of the e cigarette aka electronic cigarette or vape pen has been steep and steady. And so has the controversy surrounding these devices. Some say these new fangled cigarettes are great for people looking to quit conventional smoking. According to Wikipedia there’s no evidence e-cigarettes are regularly used by those who have never smoked. That means electronic cigarettes are primarily used by cigarette smokers. Some of the controversy is around kids. But at some point stoners adapted these things to be used with weed—a much healthier alternative to nicotine and tobacco. We wondered when and came across this interesting little infographic on the history of the e cigarette.
Is hitting an e cigarette safe?
Well according to Web MD the nicotine inside the cartridge that attaches to your e cigarette is addictive. They say that when you stop using it you can get withdrawal symptoms including feeling irritable, depressed, restless and anxious. It can be dangerous for people with heart problems and may also harm your arteries over time. “So far, evidence suggests that e-cigarettes may be safer than regular cigarettes. The biggest danger from tobacco is the smoke, and e-cigarettes don’t burn. Tests show the levels of dangerous chemicals they give off are a fraction of what you’d get from a real cigarette. But what’s in them can vary.”
That’s why we don’t recommend using electronic cigarettes to vape any of these products. Instead use an e cigarette to vape dried marijuana flowers, or fill it with your own homemade THC e liquid. Make a dry herb vaporizer yourself. Or just get yourself a vape pen that’s purpose-built for vaping marijuana concentrates like shatter, BHO or CO2. Those substances are actually useful, highly beneficial and considered medicine—nicotine is not.
A vapor cigarette creates vapor that contains tiny amounts of toxicants and heavy metals says WikiPedia. Exactly what comprises the vapor varies across and within manufacturers they claim. Vapor cigarettes contain possibly harmful chemicals that are not found in tobacco, however e-cigarette vapor contains fewer toxic substances than cigarette smoke. It also has lower concentrations of potential toxic substances than cigarette smoke and is probably less harmful to users and bystanders. However also according to Wikipedia no serious adverse effects from an electronic cigarette have been reported in trials but less serious adverse effects including throat and mouth inflammation, vomiting, nausea and cough have been reported. But the long-term effects of e-cigarette use are unknown. So that’s why we remind you…that vaping weed is far safer than smoking it. Anyhow the history of the vape pen or e cigarette is pretty interesting as you’ll see in this dope graphic:
