The Muad-Dib Concentrate Box is an oil rig that fits in the palm of your hand. It’s as portable as a vape pen and as easy-to-use. It’s beautifully constructed by Magic Flight the same company that delivered the well-received Launch Box vaporizer. That thing is sort of legendary. Well at least for a vaporizer. Basically it’s a small, portable dry herb vaporizer that garnered rave reviews since it’s inception a few years back. The Muad-Dib, designed by the eccentric metaphysics author and inventor Forrest Landry, is the companies newest portable vape device—focused only on concentrates.
In fact, the Muad-Dib (pronounced “maw-deeb”) uses the same technology as the Launch Box vaporizer, but with a newly designed screen that reaches 900° in only three seconds. For a portable wooden vaporizer that’s pretty damn hot, eh? It also uses the same batteries as the original Launch Box vape—allowing more than 50 dabs on a single charge. The unit looks super steampunk too—kind of like a vintage diving helmet meets weed vaporizer—featuring brushed brass, four snick locks and a dope magnifying glass lens.

Each Muad-Dib Concentrate Box vaporizer is hand-crafted by artisans in San Diego from renewable materials and assembled in a 70-step process. Every vaporizer also comes with a lifetime warranty. The device takes it’s name from a term used in Frank Herbert’s 1965 award-winning novel Dune which led to a 1984 film (Sting had a bit part in the flick) as well as a 2000 television miniseries. The saga is set tens of thousands of years in the future and chronicles a civilization that’s banned artificial intelligence, but has also developed advanced technology as well as mental and physical abilities. Vital to the civilization’s survival is a desert planet, Arrakis, the only known source of the herb “Melange” the most valuable substance in the universe—which kind of reminds us of weed. It produces a longer life span, greater vitality and heightened awareness in its user, but unlike marijuana, Melange is addictive and withdrawal is fatal. It probably also tastes like shit in a vaporizer. Herbert got the idea for his sci-fi book in 1957 while researching the use of poverty grass to stabilize damaging sand dunes. Too bad Herbert wasn’t studying another fast-growing plant that could help stabilize sand dunes AND entire economies here on Earth. It’s called hemp. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
Okay, back to the Box vape—our vape starter kit included the Muad-Dib Concentrate Box, two Glyph batteries, a 1.5 foot whip, a battery charger (that can charge both batteries simultaneously) and a cool tin box. The enclosed instructions said, “a tiny, pin-head sized dab is all you need for a sensational experience.” So we started off with a tiny glob of Deadhead OG wax. The dab was nice, smooth and tasty. The experience? Sensational-ish. We didn’t notice any off flavors from the materials used on the screen or the box vaporizer. Next we sampled a much larger dab of some Chiesel wax. The Muad-Dib vape quickly melted the wax and produced a thick and tasty vapor. We even tried a bit of house-made shatter and it also quickly melted, vaporized and tasted as good as a hit off a traditional oil rig and Ti nail. To help cool the vapor and because of the high-heat produced by the Muad-Dib, a 1.5 foot whip is included in place of a draw stem. Adding a water diffuser attachment to the whip, however, wouldn’t be a bad idea.
