Reporter Responds to Quitting on Air to Pursue Ending Pot Prohibition

“There comes a time in each and every one of our lives when we must choose to continue to spectate or STAND UP FOR WHAT’S RIGHT,” says the now famous Alaskan activist/ex-news anchor Charlo Greene. Greene (real name Charlene Egbe) vowed to take a stand in support of marijuana legalization and suddenly quit last night on live TV during a 10 pm Sunday newscast after revealing she was the founder of a local cannabis club. And telling viewers that she would be using all of her energy to fight for legalizing marijuana.

Greene has done a number of stories for KTVA about medical marijuana laws in the state and the fight to make it legal to grow marijuana, which seems like a conflict of interest. In some stories she even used her own club as a source. At the end of August, she spoke anonymously with the Alaska Dispatch News “citing concern over potential repercussions from her employer.” Today they interviewed her about her decision to quit live on air and asked her about why she chose such dramatic means.

“Because I wanted to draw attention to this issue,” she said. “And the issue is medical marijuana. Ballot Measure 2 is a way to make medical marijuana real … most patients didn’t know the state didn’t set up the framework to get patients their medicine.”

Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 11.16.02 AM“If I offended anyone, I apologize, but I’m not sorry for the choice that I made,” she added. The video above was uploaded to YouTube by an account named Alaskan Cannabis Club. It shows Greene explaining the bias she witnessed as a reporter and encouraging others to speak out about their own personal marijuana story. Whether or not you agree with how she quit, one thing’s for certain—Greene’s stunt definitely attracted a ton of publicity.

When she quit, Greene was working for a CBS affiliate in Anchorage and had just finished reporting on the Alaska Cannabis Club, the state’s only legal medical marijuana resource, without revealing that she owned it. At the end of the report, during a live shot, she announced that she was the club’s owner and then said, “fuck it, I quit.” Greene then confidently walked off stage without saying another word. The camera shot back to stunned anchorwoman, Alexis Fernandez, who was quick to offer an apology before shooting to commercial.

“As a member of the media, I’ve seen the dirty campaign tricks and lies that prohibitionists have been using over the past several months to sway Alaskan voters firsthand,” Greene wrote on her Indiegogo campaign page, which is in support of Ballot Measure 2 the initiative to regulate marijuana like alcohol in Alaska.

Simply I fuckin loved what she did, because if people gonna trash talk Marijuana especially Medical Marijuana saying such bullshit such as “Marijuana kills”, “a single joint is like smoking 20 cigarettes” , “There’s a reason why they call it Dope” and my personal favourite “Marijuana is a gateway drug”. Now all that is down right ignorant with a dash of arrogance, because first off Maryjane ain a killer she’s a lover n most of all a peace keeper, think about it, besides to O.D off Marijuana u would have to smoke your body weight without passin out n thats impossible to do since everyone ends up passin out after smokin 2 grams at the very least, if u toke it then u’d know it. Second, whoever started this must have been a retard tobacco company ceo or someone high up in management either that or they must have a potato for a brain. Third, yes there was a point where one of the names for Marijuana was dope but that name was eventually erased from the list of names for Marijuana because dope makes you stupid addicted which is why potheads and other pot smokers delegated that name to Crack, Heroine, Meth etc. and last but not least, when i said “personal favourite” i was being sarcastic, because when i hear it i jus look at them like “wtf? u stuck on stupid? or were u jus born under a rock located under a boulder?” because Marijuana ain no gateway drug infact Marijuana has nothing to do with the cause of meth/heroine/crack addicts, what’s actually to blame for that is Alcohol and its the actual gateway drug NOT Marijuana!

So, Charlo Greene, although im Canadian living in Vancouver BC, i fully support you and your fight to end pot prohibition in alaska because afterall, im from Vancouver aka Vansterdam and also the home of the Prince of Pot himself Marc Emery, again my name is Adam Lakshman and i support ur club campaign 420%.

oh yea, feel free to use my comment as an example or whatever to help ur fight in ending pot prohibition, i give my consent only if its used to help Charlo Greene n her club.
