Believe it or not Henry Ford, the dude behind the famous line of cars, actually made a car entirely out of hemp. Ford had his workers build a car out of hemp-based products and arranged for a promotional photo of himself, in an overcoat and hat, bashing the rear fender with a sledgehammer to show how strong the material was. Hemp was an alternative for  farmers seeking an alternative to taking land out of production and destroying “surplus” commodities. Ford was a proponent of growing crops not for food but for transformation into various industrial products—plastics, coatings, thread, etc.

Another famous rastafarian, Peter Tosh not only taught the legendary Bob Marley how to play guitar, he also appeared on many of the Legend’s early hits. Rastas, including Tosh think that any term for marijuana other than HERB is heresy as derogatory names like “marijuana” are used by those in power to incriminate and discriminate against those who are not.  Sure, we’re talkin’ semantics here, but Rastas assert their original African languages were ripped from them when they were taken into captivity as part of the slave trade and that English is an imposed, abusive, colonial language. To get around this Rastas created a modified vocabulary and dialect known as “Iyaric.” to not only take back language but reject modern western society, often referred to as “Babylon”.     Well, I’m certainly not hating here, just noticing that the article needs some work–in particular, a little fact-checking. While Louis Armstrong did co-write “Muggles” (with Earl “Fatha” Hines), he “penned” neither “Hello Dolly” (written by Jerry Herman, from his score for the Broadway show and later musical film of the same name) nor “What a Wonderful World” (written by veteran songwriter George David Weiss and famed producer Bob Thiele).
