Top 10 Stoner Quotes
Everybody loves stoner quotes. “Dave’s not here.” “Hey Bud, let’s party!” “I’m gonna get you high today because it’s Friday.” These are just a few popular stoner quotes from movies. There are plenty of popular stoner quotes about life, stoner quotes from songs and tons of stoner quotes on twitter, tons more stoner quotes on Pinterest floating around out there. And of course there are plenty stoner quote meme pics everywhere. But we wanted to dig deeper and find some stoner quotes that are both famous and meaningful.
Stoner Quote #1. “When you smoke herb, it reveals you to yourself.” – Bob Marley
The legendary reggae superstar, Bob Marley was much more than a humble, wise and infinitely talented artist. He brought hope to the downtrodden, the weak and the oppressed. Driven by his devotion and passion for Rastafarianism he inspired the globe to adopt the philosophy of One Love. He was also a major voice of legalization.
Stoner Quote #2.”[it] makes you forget all the bad things that happen to a Negro. It makes you feel wanted, and when you’re with another tea smoker, it makes you feel a special kinship.” – Louis Armstrong
One of the original jazz musicians, Louis Armstrong—the gravely voiced trumpet player who penned the famous songs “What a Wonderful World, “Hello Dolly and “Muggles” (another name for marijuana) smoked pot as a source of creative inspiration. He was eventually busted for smoking marijuana and spent nine days in the Los Angeles City Jail. As a result, he famously wrote a letter to then President Eisenhower calling for marijuana to be legalized. l
Stoner Quote #3.“The biggest killer on the planet is stress and I still think the best medicine is and always has been cannabis.” – Willie Nelson
The country legend and tireless marijuana, Willie Nelson, advocate told Rolling Stone magazine that even he was surprised when marijuana was legalized in Colorado and Washington state, noting, “I didn’t think it would happen in my lifetime, but here it is. The future looks good.” Nelson, a member of NORML’s Advisory Board goes on to say, “There’s a lot of money in selling marijuana. If you can do it legally, that’s good. Why should all the criminals make the money? if it’s going to be legal, let’s tax it and regulate it, like we do with everything else, and make some money off this. I think that’s one reason why people are taking this a little more seriously.”
Stoner Quote #4. “If the words ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ don’t include the right to experiment with your own consciousness, then the Declaration of Independence isn’t worth the hemp it was written on.” – Terence McKenna
While it’s disputed that the actual Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper, what isn’t in question is that Terence McKenna was a pioneer in the world of psychonautics. The famous writer, lecturer, ethnobotanist, philosopher, and psilocybin guru has also been famously quoted saying, “I find that when I’m writing books that I can only write for about three hours, and then either the day is finished for work, or I smoke hashish and twenty minutes later I’m ready to go two hours more at it—and I can do that twice in a day. If I judiciously control my intake of cannabis, it like gives me a second wind and a third wind to go forward with creative activity.
Stoner Quote #5. “I used to smoke marijuana. But I’ll tell you something: I would only smoke it in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening – or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, mid-evening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early mid-afternoon, or perhaps the late mid-afternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early-morning…But never at dusk.” – Steve Martin
This funny stoner quote is actually from an old Saturday Night Live episode back during season four featuring Steve Martin and Bill Murray. Although Martin wasn’t a SNL cast member, he was an honest stoner.
Stoner Quote #7. “The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship, so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world.” – Carl Sagan
Stoner Quote #8. “Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?” – Henry Ford
Stoner Quote #9. “I don’t smoke marijuana, man. Marijuana is a girl from Cuba…Ganja…is a bird from Australia, I smoke HERB.” – Peter Tosh
Another famous rastafarian, Peter Tosh not only taught the legendary Bob Marley how to play guitar, he also appeared on many of the Legend’s early hits. Rastas, including Tosh think that any term for marijuana other than HERB is heresy as derogatory names like “marijuana” are used by those in power to incriminate and discriminate against those who are not. Sure, we’re talkin’ semantics here, but Rastas assert their original African languages were ripped from them when they were taken into captivity as part of the slave trade and that English is an imposed, abusive, colonial language. To get around this Rastas created a modified vocabulary and dialect known as “Iyaric.” to not only take back language but reject modern western society, often referred to as “Babylon”. Tosh has many weed quotes attributed to him, but the one above, along with “legalize it” are our favorites.
Stoner Quote #10. “People say you can abuse marijuana. Well shit, you can abuse cheeseburgers too, you know? You don‘t go around closing Burger King because you can abuse something.” – Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan is about as famous for standing up for marijuana as his is for being associated with the TV show Fear Factor and the UFC. And he likes to get stoned and work out. In an appropriate blog post titled “I like to smoke weed and workout” he wrote, “Getting high and working out is one of the least talked about and least appreciated pleasures of fitness. Lifting weights is fun when you’re under the spell, cardio is cool too, but for me, nothing compares to getting really high and hitting the heavy bag. 2 tokes of the good is usually all it takes to start the enchanted wave – 3 if I wanna go deep.”

Well, I’m certainly not hating here, just noticing that the article needs some work–in particular, a little fact-checking. While Louis Armstrong did co-write “Muggles” (with Earl “Fatha” Hines), he “penned” neither “Hello Dolly” (written by Jerry Herman, from his score for the Broadway show and later musical film of the same name) nor “What a Wonderful World” (written by veteran songwriter George David Weiss and famed producer Bob Thiele). Want another good Armstrong-written tune? Check out “Potato Head Blues”! Just bringing a few facts to an otherwise fascinating website!

Try a thing you haven’t done
three times. Once, to get over the
fear of doing it. Twice, to learn
how to do it. And a third time, to
figure out whether you like it enough to try it the fourth time…….
