President-elect Donald Trump’s stance on marijuana legalization
President-elect Donald Trump is poised to take office. And he’ll soon be leading a country that’s quickly going to pot. Twenty-six states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form. And eight states have legalized marijuana for recreational use. The same night Trump won the election, several states legalized commercial cannabis including Maine, Massachusetts and of course the world’s sixth largest economy—California legalized marijuana as well. So in today’s new cannabis friendly culture where 60% of Americans are pro pot just how does President-elect Donald Trump feel about weed? So far he Marijuana Policy Project has given Trump a “C+” grade on marijuana legalization.
Trump supported state’s rights to choose how to legislate medical marijuana recently. He told The Washington Post. “… Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.”
But way back in February he told telling Bill O’Reilly in February that he’s, “in favor of medical marijuana 100%. I know people that have serious problems and they did that they really — it really does help them,” but then went on to call Colorado’s legal marijuana industry a “real problem.”
Back in 1990, however, Donal Trump had a completely different opinion about marijuana legalization. He told The Miami Herald that the US needs to “legalize drugs to win” the war on drugs.
Anyhow, what about Mike Pence and marijuana? This guy is definitely against marijuana legalization and he’s exiting the Governor’s office to become from a state that has some of the harshest marijuana-sentencing laws to take on the role of Vice President of the free world.
Anyhow all we can do is guess how Trump will go forward with marijuana because he hasn’t taken a definitive stance yet. But when he does, dude, we’ll sure as hell let you know.
What do you think Trump will do with weed going forward? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
