2012 Bay Area High Times Medical Cannabis Cup Winners

The 3rd installment of the HIGH TIMES Medical Cannabis Cup went down in the Bay Area this weekend at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond (just up the road from Berkeley) without a hitch!

Tons of vendors made it out selling everything from the typical marijuana emblazoned shirts, to glass and all the new electronic gear. But what was in quite heavy rotation was anything to do with the dab culture—tons of oil rigs, domes, titanium nails, utensils, torches, you name it, if you can smoke a concentrate with it…it was there. This dab thing is getting so big that we hear High Times is going to be featuring some upcoming articles in the mag about the rise in the use of concentrates. On day two of the event, High Times hosted an informative dab panel and it was standing room only. And outside in the medication area, the dab culture was just as highly concentrated—oil rigs everywhere, people dabbin’ all over the place, etc.

There was some other great panels on growing and activism. And HIGH TIMES bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award on Richard Lee, the founder of Oaksterdam University. Lee, who’s dispensary and University were raided by the DEA earlier this year definitely deserved the recognition. The guy has been a cannabis activist for more than 20 years, he not only founded the University in Oakland but in doing so helped renew a decaying neighborhood of Oakland.
