There are so many types of weed available. In fact there are so many different types of weed on the market nowadays that it’s becoming difficult to chose. Compounding the cannabis choice problem is that when it comes to various types of marijuana because no two types of weed are the same no two highs are the same.
Think about all the different variables that affect any types of weed, things like light intensity, nutrients, fertilizers, to atmospheric conditions like temperature and humidity. All these things factor into the quality and quantity of bud produced. Plus there are just so many different types of weed strains available nowadays. With all these different types of marijuana out there choices are overwhelming.
Two types of weed
First let’s talk genetics. You’re probably asking what are the two types of marijuana available, right? Well there are actually more than just two. Sure you’ve heard all the Indica v Sativa debates but have you heard about Ruderalis weed? This stuff originated in Russia and has a really low THC content. However because this type of weed doesn’t require any changes to the light cycle to trigger flowering it’s being used in many more breeding projects. Because the plants, commonly referred to as autoflowering, will begin flowering automatically once they reach a certain age they’re the best type of weed for beginning gardeners or those who live in places with a short growing season. Some experienced growers run autoflower weed types exclusively outdoors and are able to get two harvests in one season.

Anyhow with so many strains available what’s the best type of weed for you?Luckily there are experts out there like long-time High Times columnist, author and weed-grower extraordinaire, Ed Rosenthal. This dude’s probably grown every kinds of weed imaginable. So what weed types does he prefer, man? Or more specifically, how does the Guru of Ganja choose his weed?
Well according to the Guru of Ganja, Ed Rosenthal, the buzz is what most important to consider when identifying the types of weed that are right for you. What is the high like? Of course different types of weed create different types of highs. And identifying them is difficult.
“Describing a state of mind is not an easy task. Separating one’s mental state from the state of mind created by the brain’s interplay with cannabinoids is subtle,” Rosenthal says in his latest book, Big Book of Buds Greatest Hits.”We have used many terms to describe this state:
active, alert, balanced, blissful, body relaxation, body stone, calm, cerebral, cheerful, clear headed, couch lock, creative, creeper, dreamy, energetic, euphoric, even headed, body high, fast, functional, happy, hazy, heady, inspirational, intense, introspective, lively, lethargic, lucid, mellow, munchies, the chronic, pain relief, physically relaxing, playful, positive, psychedelic, sedative, sensual, sleepy, soaring, social, stony, talkative, thoughtful, trippy, uplifting, visual, wondering mind—“These descriptions attempt to capture the elusive qualities of the high and are based on a typical response; however each person has a unique relationship with marijuana, which means his or her response to a strain may range outside of the typical.”

So with all the different kinds of weed out there, what type of weed is right for you? According to Mashable, because two highs are exactly alike — you can experience anything from social boosts to total face-melting, dependent upon the type of herb.
So which is right for you? These guys contacted author Dan Michaels and photography Erik Christiansen, who have broken down the hundreds of strains in Green: A Field Guide to Marijuana. And asked them to give us a small sample of some of the popular strains that have various effects on the mind and body.
