What’s the best music to listen to when stoned? Here’s where it all starts, dude. We’re constantly questioned. What’s the best strain of weed? What’s the best way to get stoned? Who makes the best rolling papers? Why the fuck does Coldplay suck so much? Can I see your license and registration, please? But, of all the awesome questions we get asked, the one that shows up most often is: “What’s the best music to listen to when you’re stoned?” So we figured in between bong hittin’ and Coldplay-hatin’ we’d take a few minutes to finally answer this shit. And set y’all straight on what’s the best music to listen to when yer stoned. So the best music to listen to when you’re stoned is…wait for it.

turn on, tune in and drop out. feast your ears on
Carlos Nakai or Stephen Halpren and be chillin’
like Gilligan. Relax and enjoy the vibe, you’ll
be grateful you did. Take a load off your mind.

Not a stoner, BUT…I do know of one band you missed about which most people have pretty much said “Yep, those lyrics prove the writer smoked some serious weed.”
The band? “Yes.” As in the Brit band famous for not just “Roundabout” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” but most specifically, it’s famous for its now-former-front-man Jon Anderson whose lyrics are so spiritually trippy he HAD to have smoked at least one joint. Take a listen, at the very least, to the “Relayer” or “Tales from Topographic Oceans” albums to hear what I mean. Hell, I feel inspired just THINKING about the lyrics Jon has written. And I know he’s done shrooms as well, because he’s mentioned it.
What’s even trippier to think about for me is that I knew of his music at the tender age of 8 (in 1986) before I knew he had a band. That knowledge came much later when I was in a New Age chatroom back in 2002 and someone sent me some of their fave Jon Anderson/Yes works. I’m 38 now. Yeah, that’s a LONG time to be a fan!
Let’s just say that while I’m not a stoner, Jon is pretty much one of my top favorite musicians and spiritual lyricists. Ever.
