Government Agencies Panel to Appear at Emerald Cup 2016
You know that the marijuana scene is hella changing and fast when you hear that a panel of representative from several government agencies will appear at a pot festival and everyone is all stoked. Previously the only gov agencies that would appear at these things would be law enforcement and they weren’t there to make friends, man. But thing’s are different now that weed’s legal in California so instead of busting stoners law enforcement is there to lend ’em a hand. and build fruitful relationships Now that’s some stuff stoners like, right?
In case you’ve been living under a rock or too stoned to notice—the Emerald Cup, founded by Tim Blake in 2003, is one of California’s most cherished cannabis competitions. It spans two days and more than 20,000 stoners are expected to attend. It’s primarily to honor growers and breeders of (organic) weed—you know the backbone of the industry. What started as a small passionate 200-person event on Blake’s Area property has bloomed into today’s most prestigious pot comps ever. Even that tired-ass ol’ rag Rolling Stone has heard of the event saying that, “the Emerald Cup honors the best strains of marijuana of the year.”
Will you be at the 2016 Emerald Cup, man? Because we’ll be there hanging with our buds Sticky Finger Seeds from Maui. And we’ll have Stuff Stoners Like stickers and our signature rolling papers on hand. Anyhow the dudes at Sticky Fingers Seeds have been collecting and breeding killer cannabis genetics for over 45 years all up in Hawaii. And the have some seriously onolicious old-school genetics. Love those sizzling Sativas from the past? Hit us up at the Cup in the tent run by Sticky Finger/Lions Pride Genetics (from Humboldt County) and we’ll try and hook you up. Can’t afford a ticket? See below because we might have a couple to kick down soon.
Anyhow here’s a message from our friends over at the Emerald Cup 2016:
The Emerald Cup, the premier outdoor organic medicinal cannabis competition, brings qualified panelists together to address California’s regulatory policies pertaining to cannabis. The Government Agencies’ panel will be moderated by Jamie Kerr of Roots Consulting, who have been tirelessly working to bridge the gap between canna-businesses and governments, communities, and other industries.
With a booming industry and changing regulation, this panel will provide a clear picture of the current regulatory climate, not only for the end-consumer, but also the cultivators and workers within the industry as well as considerations for California’s awe-inspiring environment. The panel is scheduled for Saturday, December 10th at the SC Labs Stage at The Emerald Cup from 1:15-2:30 PM.
Sitting in with moderator Jamie Kerr will be Jim Wood, current representative in the California State Assembly. Wood has enjoyed a successful political career and, within the past year alone, has authored nine bills into law, including the Marijuana Watershed Protection Act (AB 243) which serves as the environmental cornerstone in California’s Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act. Fiona Ma, Chairwoman of the California Board of Equalization. As a Certified Public Tax Accountant, Ma understands the ins and outs of the challenges business and taxpayers face today.
Also adding their credentials to this knowledgeable cast is Lori Ajax, Chief of the Bureau of Medical Cannabis Regulation. Ajax has decades of experience in alcoholic beverage regulation and criminal justice. Current Director of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation, Brian Lehay, will be part of the discussion as well. Mr. Lehay has years of farming expertise under his belt and has been pioneering organic and biodiversity farming in California since 1980. Capping off the list of panelists will be John Nores from the California Department of Fish and Game.
From experts in the fields, to seasoned political veterans, The Emerald Cup is primed to give cannabis enthusiasts the knowledge they need. The Emerald Cup is a two-day conference, festival and competition taking place at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on December 10th and 11th, 2016.
